my story

"My art and style is about being true to oneself and not being afraid to speak up and stand out. I want to inspire motivation and also hold space for anyone struggling, as it's human nature to tango between the two... While my pieces highlight ancestral spirituality, femme sexuality, punk pastel themes, and vulnerable self acceptance, my mission and vision is to help lead us as a collective in the direction of embodying dualism and magnanimously making peace with imperfections."

My name is Aloe, I'm a Uruguayan-American artist born and raised in NJ. I've made art for over 25 years and am passionate about an autodidactic approach to life, especially when it comes to creating. Through my pieces I'd like to touch on mental health struggles, single motherhood, queerness/sexuality, spirituality, and growing up native and bilingual in America. I am visually inspired by nature, fashion, astronomy/astrology and retro Uruguayan themes I grew up around. My other inspirations include my baby Marcel, dreams, romance, fungi, the ocean, the moon, video games, music, tattoos, martial arts and horror films, and all things anarchy.

As a bilingual reconnecting native child of two immigrants growing up in the melting pot that is Essex County, I was always in between multiple worlds, one finger in each portal. This experience helped me bridge connections between myself and people from all walks of life, as well as help me flourish my own uniqueness. Memories of my childhood and early adulthood in New Jersey, New York, California and Uruguay all inspire my art in that it's a mixture of a brash and gritty east coast attitude bark, a brisk breeze of beach weed smoke and the warmth of family barbecues and candombe.

I see art as an ancestral gift that allows me to silently and loudly connect with people, ultimately grounding me to the human experience whilst allowing me to explore fantasies and openly express taboo worlds.
